Roy is a swordsman from the world of Melee. He is good friends with Mario and Luigi, and thus also a friend of Princess Peach. In contrast to Mario, who had no positive feelings towards Bowser Koopa, Roy was sympathetic towards Bowser Koopa and congratulated him with his defeat of Donkey Kong.
After the move to the world of Brawl, Roy found himself in the Twilight Realm as a spirit. As he was replaced by Ike, Roy replicated Ike's form and modified it to regain his original appearance.
